The Lock & Craig Family
1926 to Present

In 1925, Edmond Lock and Hart Craig had an idea of starting the Lock & Craig Family Reunion. They talked it over and later discussed the idea with Perkins Lock, John Craig and Henry Perry. They had a front porch meeting and they all agreed that it would be a good idea, creating family time and fellowship time with the community.

A location was agreed upon to use. The Macedonia Baptist Church was selected as the church site. Rev. H.Z. Hall and the members of Macedonia Baptist Church granted the use of the church. The fall of 1926, the Lock and Craig held their 1st Annual Lock and Craig Reunion.

The parents of the founders of the Lock and Craig reunion were Linea Lock, Missy Lock Craig, Marcie Lock and Shandy Lock Williams. They were slaves and were freed later from slavery. Linea Lock, Missy Lock married Frank Craig, Marcie Lock married Ella (last name unknown). Shandy Lock Williams married his first wife Maggie and they had two children named Gateway and Mel Williams. After Maggie died, Shandy married his second wife, Lizza Jane Jones and they had sixteen children.

Shandy Lock was purchased by a slave owner named Williams, Shandy kept his slave name Williams. Shandy remained in an area called Williamstown, Arkansas.

The reunion has evolved tremendously over the years with good leadership of past and present presidents for the family celebrations. In later years, Sis. Clara Craig started the motto for the family reunion. The motto is: “ The Family That Prays Together Stays Together ”. It’s one that the family plans to continue to use daily in our lives.

And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north and to the south; and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. Genesis 28:14

Our family members are spread abroad and every year some of our seeds return to celebrate family and celebrate God’s goodness, grace and mercy.

We pray that the Lock and Craig reunion will continue to grow stronger over the years and continue to believe in our family motto– “The Family That Prays Together Stays Together”.
